INDEX

[1646] "BOYS WERE DROWNED IN CORRY CITY RESERVOIR - Corry, Sept 13 - W (sic) [Frank DeForest] Wilson, 10 years old, son of Wilbur Wilson, local manager of the Pennsylvania Gas company here, and [Harry] A Moyer, aged 9 years, were drowned in the city reservoir Saturday evening. The tragedy did not become known until frantic parents searching for hours, finally at 11 o'clock Saturday night appealed to the fire department for aid. The children had gone to a pasture near their homes on Northwest street, where the reservoir is also located. They went to fly their kite. The chums were having a great time in the breeze which proceeded the heavy rain storm. The string of their kite was the first clue to the accident. Searchers walking about the reservoir discovered a string in the water. Taking a hold of this and drawing it the hand of one child and then the body came to the surface. A quick search of the water brought the remains of the other victim. It is believed the children climbed over the picket fence to recover the kite which must have fallen into the reservoir. In their effort both must have gone over their depth and drowned. Deputy Coroner C B Porter deemed an inquest unnecessary and the bodies were taken in charge by an undertaker. The reservoir has sloping sides and is almost eight feet deep."
