[1488] PHILIP Sparling (circa 1818), a tailor, born in Limerick; joined the 41st Regt (Welsh) at Cork in 1849. He was allegedly 24 years old (should read 29) and married. He appeared in the Dublin Directory (1846-1848) based at 39 Mary Street, Dublin. His wife Jane (1814) was a dressmaker and milliner. He had three daughters christened while with the regiment, and transferred to the 2nd Batt, 3rd Rgt as Sergeant on 1 Jan 1854. He was discharged on 19 Apr 1858 having served 8 years and 199 days as a Sgt Master Tailor. By 1881 he lived in Leeds, England with his wife and married daughters. Philip died on 29 Sept 1888 aged 70, and left a will. Jane died in 1891 aged 78.
