[949]
SPARLING EVELYN SHORE was born in Hollister, CA in 1907 and passed away April 5, after a brief illness. She attended the University of California at Berkeley as a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, and graduated from Stanford University with a Phi Beta Kappa Magna Cum Laude. A primary education teacher, her delight in the accomplishments of students continued throughout her life. She was the widow of WILLIAM A. SPARLING, longtime head of the Metropolitan Oakland Chamber of Commerce. Together, their community spirit was manifested in planning for BART, the Oakland Coliseum, highways and many other strategic projects. On a personal level, they were founders of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Orinda, to which donations are being sent in her memory. She leaves behind a daughter, Martha Ann; a son William and his wife Katharine; grandchildren Peter Saxby and his wife Charlotte, Sarah Saxby Bishop and her husband Tom, and Scott, Kent and his wife Vanessa, and Brian Sparling; and great-grandchildren Christopher, Julia and Kevin Saxby and Camille and Cassandra Bishop.
