Peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Portage District Hospital, Lillian Caroline Leslie of the Countess Apartments, passed away 8 days before her 83rd birthday. Lillian was born on November 24th, 1919, daughter of William and Mabel Sparling of the Treherne District in Manitoba, where she was raised andreceived her education. In 1943 she married Frank Leslie and they farmed in the Elie District until 1945 when they moved to the Ridge Road District where Mom and Dad continued to farm until retirement in 1980, later moving into Portage la Prairie. Predeceased by her husband Frank in 1996, she leaves to mourn her passing: one son Jim and Shauna-Lei grandson Branden of Portage; 3 daughters Connie and Don Lenard of Dundurn SK., grandson Todd (Candi) and great granddaughters Taylor and Jade of Tisdale SK., grandson Jeff (Dawn) and great grandsons Bo and Tyse and great granddaughter Kiera of Saskatoon SK., grandson Kyle of Dundurn SK.;
Gail Leslie and friend Joanne of Lockport MB.; June and Harvey Klassen of Winkler MB., grandsons Daniel, Matthew and Timothy of Winnipeg. Also sisters; Mina, Audrey and brothers: Lorne, Ronald and Fred, brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Lillian's family was extremely important to her and she loved hearing or seeing them when ever possible. Over the years Mom enjoyed farming, knitting, singing in the choir, quilting (she won many ribbons at the Portage Fair), playing the piano, cross country skiing, bowling, Rainbow Stage shows, cribbage, Herman Prior Center, watching her son and grandsons play hockey, Countess Apartment friends (evening chats), Thursday shopping trips to the Co-op, she loved to make apple pies (they were the best).
All who knew and loved her will sadly miss her. Friends may call at the Omega Funeral Home for visitation on Saturday morning, November 23rd from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Internment will follow at the Oakville Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Omega Funeral Home with Rev. Jean Bryden officiating at 1:00 pm. Lunch to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Lillian's Memory to The Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 1V1.
