INDEX

[46] There are no Irish records of Peter, but there is a marriage record in the Dutch Reformed Church of New York for Peter Sparling and Catherine Kursen, married on 24 Feb 1769 which states that he is from Ireland and she is of New York. A Peter Sparling is also witness to the christening of Jacob (s/o William Peter and Ann Fizzell) at Trinity Church , NY in 1779. Two other nephews of William Peter, George and Philip were known to be in New York as well.

[47] Moved to New York to Uncle Peter Sparling who made an application on 07 sep 1772 asking for 200 acres close to Salem Township for George and his brother.

A George Sparling appears in the 1790 census of Kingston , Ulster, New York as the head of a family made up of 2 males over 16, 2 males under 16 and 3 females. (Kingston, Ulster, New York; Roll: M637_6; Page: 171)

[48] Went to New York. A notice in the New York Mercury 0f 24 Jun 1765 concerned a Philip Sparling, aged 15 and born in Ireland, a runaway indentured servant to Charles Miller Baker, of New York City. Another notice in the Gazette-Mercury of 10 Apr 1769 states "Sparling, Philip, servant boy -- runaway from Charles Miller, living on Golden Hill, NYC". So he was either still missing 5 years later or had returned and run away again.

A Phillip Sparling appears in the 1800 census of Beekman, Dutchess County, NY with 2 males under 10, 1 male between 26 and 45, 2 females under 10, and 1 female between 26 and 45.
