Affidavit

I Wm T Hepner of the county of Ida and state of Iowa being fist [probably supposed to be "first'] duly sworn do depose and say that I am the Identical person who was ["private" lined out] corporal in Co. D. 29 Indiana Inft. Vol. and who is now applicant for a pension. claim No. [blank] and do make the following statements as to my treatment for said disease Piles as set forth in my application in the regiment.

That I was not treated in the regiment by James M. Confer, Surgeon, and I do not think that he knows or recollects anything about my disease. At the time Confer was acting sergion, I had the typhoid fever for which Confer waited upon me. We had nine doctyors in our regiment serving as officers. Our regular surgens was sick when Confer a Captain was detailed to act as surgan for the regiment. My Captain, J. P. Collins of Co. D treated me being a phycian before he went into the army - and said that I would not get proper treatment by the surgeons, so he gave me special treatment but he is now dead. The short time I lived in the town of Knox Stark County Indiana I was using potent medicines and treating myself as best I could being told by phycians that I could never be cured at any rate[?] - so I had no treatment there in Indiana and the disease being of such a nature that I did not disclose it to every one under confidence[? word very faint on copy] - so no phycian treated me in Indiana. At Tipton Cedar County In fall of 1879, I was taken very bad. ?indaw & Madison two phycians who came to Tipton to and made their headquarters at No hotel. (Fleming House) These phycians were traveling doctors. I met them several times to be treated at Milton Junction, Muscatine Co., Iowa, but I know not where they are now. These phycians also performed an operation upon me but to no purpose.

Doctor Turner of Tipton also treated me there, but he has gone to Kansas as I understand, but if alive or where I know not. Doctor Chambers who now lives I think at Cedar Rapids treated me once at Tipton in the fall of 1879, when I was so bad. This is all the treatment I have had in the case and a true statement of the matter to the best of my knowlge and all belive
