Dwight Hepner Laid to Rest Monday

 

Dwight Hepner, the third of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Hepner, of this city, passed away at his home in Hammond, Ind., early last Saturday morning. Death was due to rheumatism of the heart and his illness was very brief, extending only for about 10 days. At the time of his demise, Mr. Hepner was aged 57 years, 11 months and 16 days.

Dwight Hepner was born in Starke County, June 8, 1866 and spent the greater part of his younger days in this community, where he made many warm and lasting friendships. He was married to Miss Eliza Foltz, of this city, in 1890, and to this union one child was born, Norton L., who now resides in Hammond.

For about 40 years Mr. Hepner had followed railroading and at the time of his death was a switchman in the yards at Hammond. He was a member of the Railroad Brotherhood and also of the K. of P. Lodge.

Surviving are the widow, one son, Norton, the aged father, M. T. Hepner, of Knox; two brothers, Ollie D., of Knox, and Harry, of South Bend; three sisters; Mrs. E. E. Page, of Marshall, Mich., Mrs. H. W. Garner, of Chicago and Mrs. E. H. Taylor, of Knox; James Giles, whom the deceased and wife have reared since boyhood and a host of other relatives and friends.

Short funeral services were held in Hammond Monday forenoon and the services here were held at the Free Methodist Church, in charge of Rev. W. T. Loring, of Chicago.

Interment was made on Oak Park Cemetery.

Garner and Mrs. Thomas Maughn, of Chicago; Mrs. B. J. Sobbotney, Mrs. Hilda Tibbs and daughter, Mrs. Thomas McCall, of Gary; Mrs. E. E. Page, of Marshall, Mich.; Harry Hepner and daughter, Irene, of South Bend; Daniel Foltz and family, of Hamlet; Mrs. J. M. Kriss and son, Otto, of North Judson; Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Ferguson and Mr. and Mrs. John Pritch, of Bourbon.
