Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 42,427, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.

It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Mathias T. Hepner was enrolled on the 3x day of Sept., 1861, at La Porte in Co. D, 29 Regiment of Ind. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Musician ["on" lined out and replaced by "to date from'] the 27 day of Aug. 1861, at La Porte, in Co. D, 29 Regiment of Ind. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. On the Muster and Roll of Co. D of that Regiment, ["for the months of" lined out] dated Dec. 2. 1865, he is reported Discharged on Surg. Cert. of Dis. June 27. 1862 at Louisville, Ky., by reason of Tuberculosis. -- No records for April 1862 on file -- Return for Jn 62 reports him In Hospital Evansville, Ind.

REPORT 3:

Washington, D. C., Feb'y 10", 1871.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 42,427., and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.

It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Matthias T. Hepner was enrolled on the 13' day of Feb'y, 1865, at La Porte Inda in Co. H, 151" Regiment of Inda Volunteers, to serve One year["s, or during the war." lined out] On the Muster Roll of Co. H of that Regiment. for the months of March & April 1865, he is reported 1st Serg't, Present. No further records as an enlisted man. No certifiance of disability.

Washington, D. C., July 9th, 1878.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 42,427., and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.

It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office that Mathias T. Hepner was [text lined out] a Musician [text lined out] in Co. D, 9th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, to serve [blank] years, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. D, of that Regiment, for the months of Mar & April, 1862, he is reported Corpl, Present for duty. Co was in action at Shiloh Tenn April 6 & 7/62 Return for April - 62 does not reports him absent sick or otherwise. The records of this Office do not furnish any evidence this man was either wounded or injured at battle of Shiloh Tenn April 6-7/62.

Co. rolls - May & June July& Aug 65 rept him 1-Lt present M/O Roll of Co. dated Nashville Tenn Sept 19.65 repts him absent on leave per S.O. Genl Stoneman No. 62. No dischg furnished at M/O. of organization. No Ind. M/O Roll on file.

It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office that Matthias T. Hepner was [text lined out] a Private [text lined out] Co. H, 151" Regiment of Ind. Volunteers, [text lined out]. On the Muster Roll of Co. H of that Regiment, for the months of Mch & Apl., 1865, he is reported 1" Sergt present - May & June 65 1" Lt . Promoted from 1" Sergt. to 1" Lt. May 1" 1865. He was discharged to date May 5, 1865 for promotion to 1" Lieut same company and regiment. S.F.O. No. 125. Dept. of the cumberland. May 12. 1865. The records of this office afford no evidence that he was wounded or injured at the battle of Shiloh Tenn. Apl. 7. 1862"
