GENERAL AFFIDAVIT.

-------------------------------

State of Indiana, County of Starke, ss:

In the matter of Pension Invalid Claim Certificate No. 362,802 of Matthias T. Hepner, Co. D, 29 Reg't Ind Volunteers.

Personally came before me, a Circuit Clerk in and for the aforesaid County and State, David P. Favorite, aged Seventy years, a citizen of Knox, No. [blank] Street, County of Starke State of Indiana, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case, as follows:

I saw the claimant Matthias T. Hepner five or six days after he returned home from the army, sometime during the month of July 1862, at which [carat insert] time [end insert] said Hepner was sick and complained of Chronic Diarrhoea[.] At that time he was so sick that he had to be waited upon all the time and carried to and from his bed. His bowels evacuated so often and freely at that time that he needed constant attention. I lived near said Hepner and saw him often from the aforesaid time till in February 1865 and during this time he continued to suffer with and complain of said disease. During this time he was often confined to his bed, and at other times he was able to be around and work a little. From the month of September 1865 till the present time I have lived near said Hepner and saw him during this period on an average of once each week and during said time he has suffered with chronic diarrhoea more or less all the time, and during this time from the time he was discharged in 1862 as aforesaid till the present he has not been able to perform more than half the labor of an ordinary able bodied man. I know the above facts by reason of personal acquaintance and observation[.]

I was personally acquainted with said Hepner prior to the time he enlisted in 1861, at which time said Hepner was a very active healthy young man.

Affiant further declares that he has no interest in said case, and is not concerned in its prosecution.

Signature of Affiant: David P. Favorite

Sworn to and subscribed before me this day by the above-named affiant, and I certify that I read said affidavit to said affiant, including the words [blank] erased and the words [blank] added, and acquainted him with its contents before he executed the same. I further certify that I am in nowise interested in said case, nor am I concerned in its prosecution; and that said affiant is Personally Known to me, and that he is a credible Person, and his general reputation for truth is good.

Witness my hand and official seal this 25th day of February 1899.
