State of Indiana, County of Owen, ss.:

In the matter of the Pension Claim of Elizabeth Bastin No. 213,979 Widow of Henry A. Bastin late priv. Co. H, 33 Ind. Vols.

Personally appeared before me, a Clerk Circuit Court, in and for said county, and State William J. Childers, aged 46 years, P. O. address, Spencer, County of Owen, State of Indiana, a person of lawful age, who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows:

I have been intimately acquainted with Elizabeth Bastin the Claimant and her late husband Henry A. Bastin for more than 30 years[.] I was a comrade of said Bastin in said Co. H 33rd Indiana Regiment. I personally Know that said Elizabeth Bastin has not remarried since the death of her husband Henry A. Bastin the above named soldier, and my acquaintance with her has been such that I would have Known of it if she had remarried. She remains to this date the widow of said soldier Henry A. Bastin, and is a woman who is very poor, and has to work hard, beyond her strength, and is of good character for honesty and virtue.

I further declare that I have no interest in said case, am not concerned in its prosecution, and am not related to claimant in any way.
