John Gemmill Cresswell died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Eliza C. Barr, 1307 Washington avenue, at 4 o'clock this morning, from heart trouble, aged 62 years last August. Deceased was a native of Alexandria, Huntingdon county, where much of his life was spent. Until only a few years ago he had been in the service of the Pennsylvania railroad as baggage master on the middle division. Prior to this service, in which twenty years of his life was spent, he was with the Campbell Brothers of Altoona, contractors. In 1893 he suffered a sunstroke attack and again in 1894 was prostrated by the heat. From these attacks he never recovered, finally having to relinquish work entirely. On the 14th of November, 1898, the wife of Mr. Cresswell, who was the sister of Dr. J. T. Wilson, of Tyrone, died at Alexandria, and in December Mr. Cresswell came to Tyrone and had since made his home with his sister here. He was the son of Nicholas Cresswell, deceased. Besides his sister, Mrs. Barr, one brother, Gemmill Cresswell, survives and resides at Petersburg, Huntingdon county. He was a consistent and earnest member of the Alexandria Presbyterian church for many years. He was of retired and quiet disposition, yet a genial companion for those with whom he became acquainted. Only Wednesday of this week he attended the funeral of his late friend Dr. Porter, at Alexandria, and was able to be about town yesterday. The funeral will occur Monday. After a short prayer service here the remains will be conveyed by the main line express at 12.03 to Alexandria, where services will be conducted at the Presbyterian church by the deceased's pastor, Rev. Mr. Stewart, and Rev. A. J. Weisley. Interment will follow at the Alexandria cemetery.
