MRS. J. O. SEYMOUR, PIONEER, IS DEAD
Funeral of Rantoul Citizen Sunday Afternoon

Mrs. James O. SEYMOUR, 77, Franklin County pioneer and gold star mother, died this morning at the home south of Rantoul. She had been in failing health several years, and was unable to rally after a stroke she suffered last August. Mrs. SEYMOUR had been almost helpless for many weeks.

The funeral is to be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from Ruhamah Baptist church. Rev. W. A. Elliott and Rev. A. A. Van Sickle, Baptist ministers of Ottawa, will officiate, and interment is to be in Ruhamah cemetery.

Bird C. WILSON was born March 5, 1863, daughter of Dr. John Russell WILSON and Charlotte (WALKER) WILSON, in Washington, Pa. She was reared there and graduated from high school in 1880. Her father died in 1873, and in 1882 she went with her mother and family to Le Loup. The marriage of Miss WILSON and Mr. SEYMOUR occurred near Le Loup March 29, 1888, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family reunion in 1938. They began housekeeping in a log cabin on the farm where Mr. SEYMOUR has lived all his life. The cabin was long ago replaced by a modern country home.

Mrs. SEYMOUR taught school five years in Franklin county. Eight children were born, Quincy R. and Edgar W., who were killed in action in the World War; James O. SEYMOUR, who lives on a farm a mile from that of his parents; Mrs. E.L. STRATTON, Munzie; B. Mac SEYMOUR, Ottawa; Miss Harriett SEYMOUR, teacher in Cliffton high school; Miss Fannie SEYMOUR of the home, and Fred SEYMOUR, Haddam. Mrs. SEYMOUR is survived by 11 grandchildren and a sister, Miss Fannie B. WILSON of Chicago. Harold SEYMOUR, grandson, was reared and lived with Mr. and Mrs. SEYMOUR since he was three years old.

In August, 1930 Mrs. SEYMOUR was in the group of gold star mothers who made the pilgrimage to France on the George Washington. She was chosen to represent the group and placed a floral wreath on the monument to the unknown soldier in Paris. Mrs. SEYMOUR was a charter member of the Rantoul Farm Bureau club and community Y.W.C.A. and she was a member and clerk of the Rantoul school board continuously for 35 years.
She was buried at Ruhamah Cem. in Rantoul, Franklin Co., KS.⁷¹⁰ Bird was an a school teacher in Franklin Co., KS. She was a Baptist. Parents: John Russell WILSON M.D.-61881 and Charlotte Catherine WALKER-61877.
