Elizabeth KEISER and Adam LOWER/LAUBER11958 were married before 1777. Descendants of Adam Lower Generation No. 1 1. ADAM3 LOWER (FATHER2 LAUER, GRANDFATHER1) was born 1755 in Wurtemburg, Germany. He married (1) NANCY DIGGINS. He married (2) E LIZABETA KEISER Bef. 1806. Notes for ADAM LOWER: According to genealogy research of Rev. Joseph Leaney Lower: Adam Lower lived most of his life in Williamsburg, Blair County, PA which was in Huntingdon County in his day. He died there at the age of 78 & was buried in the cemetery by the old stone church which was either Luteran or Germa Reform. His wife Elizabeth died before him and he married a second time. Adam was born in Germany, Wurtemburg, in AD 1755. He and a sister lived with their grandfather. His mother died when he was young. Of this family we have but a meager traditionary history, but family tradition has it that his father was a Major in the German army, and in an engagement during the Seven Years' War, in which his command was practically annihilated, he swam the river Rhine and upon reaching the opposite shore found several bullets lodged in his helmet. It is also understood he was killed in an engagement during rhat war, though we have no record as to place or date. Adam Lower's grandfather was very wealthy, & gained his wealthe in this way: The cholera in a city in Germany (Wurtemburg) caused the living to flee, & he received an enormous fortune for clearing the city of its dead. For some reason, when a young man, Adam ran away from his grandfather's home & came to America. He had only money enough to pay part of his ship fare, & when he landed in America was sold in bondage to satisfy the debt. When the Revolutionary War broke out he secured his freedom by enlisting in the Continental Army, which was in accordance with a law passed by the Continental Congress, giving freedom to all white persons, then serving bondage, who would enlist in the Continental Army. We find the following Revolutionary record of Adam Lower in the Pennsylvania Archives, Vol. III; A muster roll of Captain William Heyser's Company, of the German Regiment commanded by Baron Arendt, Colonel: Quibbel Town, May 22, 1977. Captain William Heyser, July 12, 1776 Privates, among whom is Adam Lower ============= The first record of settelemtn was in Maxatawney Township, Berks County PA. The following certification of naturalization: Berks County\ Pennsylvania ss\ I do hereby swear that Adam lauer, of Maxatawney Township hat voluntarily taken the oath of allegiance and fidelity, as directed by an act of the General Assembly of Pennsylvania, passed the 13th day of June AD 1777 Witness my hand and seal the 18th day of July AD 1778 Samuel Ely (L.S.) In his naturalization papers the name is spelled Lauer, which is the correct spelling, according to the German, but later the spelling was changed to Lower which speling has been used by all his children. According to date he would have been about 23 years of age at the time of taking the oath of allegiance to the United States of Ameica. We have no definite date of his marriage, but considering the date of his wife's death, June 17, 1806, at the age of 49, and the fact that eleven
children were born, possibly two years apart, we can approximate the date of marriage. His wife's maiden name was Elizabeth Keiser. She was born on board a ship en route from Germany to America, AD 1757. The record on her tombstone in Williamsburg PA is Elizabeta Lauer. We have no record of Adam Lower's removal from Berks County PA to Williamsburg PA, the in Huntingdon County, now Blair County. Adam Lower
bought land near Williamsburg PA for farms, and also lots in town. Many
of his children married i and near Williamsburg and remined there for many years. He was a weaver by trade, and had a loom in his log house at the foot of the hill below the Methodist Church, in Williamsburg. IT is said that Adam Lower gave a man named Ulric a pwer of attorney to go to Germany and collect the estate of his grandfather. The man went, and was supposed to have obtained the estat, but never returned, nor made a settlement with Adam Lower. This was a source of trouble to Adam, fearing that his sister had been robbed of her share of the estate. He never heard from his sister. Adam Lower married his second wife, named Nancy Diggins, who had a son named John diggins. The author can just remember this grandmother. I was born in 1829 and grandfather died April 16, 1833. ========= LAST WILL AND TESTEMENT OF ADAM LOWER In the name of God, Amen.
