Dr. J. D. Geissinger, one of the well-known physicians and surgeons of Spirit Lake, is a native son of Iowa, his birth occurring in Poweshiek county, February 2, 1880....When he was about 4 his family moved to Dickinson where he received his early education. He graduated from Milford High School and attended Highland Park College for three years and then attended Northwestern University where he obtained his M. D. in 1907. He spent an 18 month residency at Chicago's Cook County Hospital & then worked in association with Dr. Q.C. Fuller in Milford before setting up his own practice in Spirit Lake.
On August 31, 1910, John married Ellen Anderson, daughter of John G. Anderson. The Geissingers have two children: James D. and Rosemary Ellen.
Dr. Geissinger is a member of the Dickinson County Medical Society, the Iowa State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He and his wife are connected with the Eastern Star and Dr. Geissinger is also a senior warden in the Royal Arch Mason lodge in Spirit Lake.

Since 1881 John W. Geissinger has been a resident of Dickinson county and he has been an important part in its early development, especially along agricultural lines, owning and operating a fine farm in Westport township. At the present time, however, he is living retired in Milford, enjoying a well-earned rest. He was born on the 13th of December, 1835, in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, of which state his parents, John and Jane (Barrick) Geissinger, were also natives...He assisted in the operation of the home farm until the age of twenty-six....In 1881 he came to Dickinson county, Iowa. He rented land for several years and then purchased 160 acres in Westport until he retired in 1902, selling his tract and moving to Spencer Iowa. After 10 years he moved to a residence in Milford.
He married Mary Boden, daughter of Matthew & Margaret Boden. Her parents were originally natives of Scotland. Her father died in Ireland before the family emigrated and located in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Mary's mother died in Pennsylvania in 1900. Mary and John had 10 children: Anna, wife of Henry Herrick, of Grimes, Iowa; Mattie, wife of Frank Ewen, of Dickinson Co; Ida, who died at the age of one and a half years; Irvin, a resident of California; Flora, widow of Reuben Donaldson; Margaret, wife of A.W. Hall of Cananda; Alonzo, resident of Canada; Mary E., who died at age 6 months; Clara, who died in 1902 at age 24; and John D., a physician of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
