Oren married Florence Ethel Chittenden (b. April 19, 1889 - d. January 21, 1979), on March 31, 1910 in Spring Lake, Ottawa County, Michigan. Oren served his tool & die apprentiship from 1906 until 1909 at Chandler Machine in Grand Haven, Michigan. Oren and Florence were married in 1910. They moved to Canada (near Niagra Falls) in 1912 and Pap worked there until April of 1914 when they returned to Michigan and he started at REO Motors, later known as Oldsmobile.

He retired from Oldsmobile in 1953 at age 65 and moved from Lansing to Spring Lake where he and Florence built a home on the Grand River. Oren began working for Oldsmobile on October 7, 1918, as a tool and die maker. In the mid 70's Oren and Florence sold their home in Spring Lake and moved to Alanson, Michigan. They bought a mobile home and moved on a lot on Crooked River owned by Ruth and Jack White. Pap and Jack spent many hours together fishing on Crooked River, and on Burt and Crooked Lakes. Oren and Florence lived in Alanson until Pap's death on October 15th, 1973. Florence then moved to Lansing near her daughter Jeanne until she was finally moved into a nursing home where she passed away on January 21, 1979.
