  "Brother Matt joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Fellowship Sat. before the first Sunday in August 1925, was baptized the following day (Sun) with his wife and eight others. He was ordained as Deacon June 2, 1945 and faithfully served that office as his health permitted until his death.
  "Brother Matt suffered affliction the past several years of his life, but he was no complainer, bore his suffering patiently. A short while before he died he said he had lived twenty years longer than the doctors had predicted.
  "Brother Matt bravely fought in World War one. He entered military training Oct. 1917, shipped overseas shortly after, discharged in May 1919.
  "He fought in many battles while serving in the war which ended November 11, 1918.
  "Brother Matt was instrumental in church work ever ready to contribute to the expenses of the upkeep and needs of the church and to the ministry. It can be truly said he loved the church and was zealous for her.
