Charles Catalano

Funeral services for Charles Catalano of 51 Ryerson Ave., Newton, who died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on Sunday in San Bernardino, Calif., while on vacation will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:30 at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. The Rev. Thomas H. Murphy of St. Joseph's Church will officiate and interment will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blairstown. Born in New York City 54 years ago, Mr. Catalano came to Sussex County when he was 11 years old and resided in Stillwater until he moved to Newton 27 years ago. He had owned the Campus Shop opposite Newton High School for the past four years. Prior to that he operated the Stewart Root Beer Shop, Route 206, Andover. Recently he became a partner in the County Auto Body Shop in Newton. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Lanterman Catalano; two sons, Charles of Byram, a New Jersey State Trooper stationed at the Hainsville barracks, and Michael also of Byram; a daughter, Mrs. Susan Smith of Paulinskill Lake, seven grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Dillman of Somerville and Mrs. Josephine Transue of Blairstown.
