KEY:

The sequence followed in this book for each civil parish is as follows:

1. The number preceding the civil parish represents the map reference number used in the New Genealogical Atlas of Ireland.
2. The name of the civil parish in alphabetical order within county.
3. The number following the civil parish represents the reference number used in the county maps accompanying the householders' index to the Griffith's Valuation.
4. Church of Ireland Parish.
a) If no name is given then the Church of Ireland parish is known by the civil parish name.
b) A name is only listed when a Church of Ireland church or parish is known by a name other than the civil parish name.
c) The date represents the earliest commencement date of baptism registers, except where stated otherwise.
d) If there is no date against the civil parish name, then no pre-1871 Church of Ireland register survives.
5. Roman Catholic Parish.
a) The name or names of the Roman Catholic parish or parishes serving that civil parish are given.
b) The date represents the earliest baptism or marriage entry in the Catholic register.
c) No date means the Catholic parish couldn't be identified in the National Library list. A register, however, should be held locally.
6. Presbyterian Congregation.
a) The name or names of Presbyterian congregations located within the civil parish are given.
b) The date represents, in almost every case, the earliest baptism register existing for that congregation.
c) The names of those congregations that united or were dissolved, and the year in which it occurred, are given in brackets.
7. Other Protestant dissenting congregations: For these denominations the dates of the earliest baptism registers are given when they could be identified.  The symbols used are as follows:
R.P. = Reformed Presbyterian Congregation
S.P. = Secession Presbyterian Congregation
M. = Methodist Congregation
C. = Congregationalist Congregation
B. = Baptist Congregation
Q. = Quaker Meeting *

* Unlike the other denominations the presence of a name doesn't mean the Quaker meeting was still operational by the mid-nineteenth century. It merely means a Quaker meeting was at one time established in this civil parish.
