Province Munster includes six counties, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford

Viking raiders turned harbors of  Waterford and Cork into fortified trading posts and military compounds.

From there they launched attacks against soft targets up river. Target of Pagan Vikings  were monastic sites up river which were spaced about one days walk apart.

A bit of ancient trivia: At the height of the last ice age, Cork and Kerry were south of the maximum expansion of glaciers which blanketed Ireland. Cork and Kerry were relatively ice free, and man could have lived there. Land was cheap. That is where I want to retire.
