Irish Families Living in St Joseph County, Indiana when the 1870 U.S. Census was Conducted
With each passing decade, the Irish seemed to disperse a little more among the various townships in St Joseph County, Indiana and their numbers were gradually increasing. When the 1870 U.S. Census was conducted, there was still a significant concentration of Irish residing in the fourth ward (47 families), including my great grandparents Martin and Catherine Brennan.
Keep in mind that this compilation only includes those families with documented Irish born individuals. This census year does not include data on where the parents of the head's of household were born, only if they are of foreign birth.
