The Thomas Hartford and Maria McNulty Family in South Bend, St Joseph County, Indiana Census, directories and other Non Church Related Records

Thomas Hartford and Maria McNulty obtained a marriage license in St Joseph County, Indiana on July 2, 1883. They had the following children baptized in St Joseph Church, South Bend, Indiana: Maria Irenem, Maria Agnetem, Martinem, Rosam and Saram Carmel. These are the only baptismal records I could find thus far. They are listed as living on Corby Street in the 1900 census (recorded immediately after her mother Margaret McNulty who is living with son Edward (and Margaret's brother) on 1003 Notre Dame Avenue. Inez, IRene and Agnes are initially recorded as having parents born in Ireland, but NJ is written above each for the father and Indiana for the mother. Here is a link to the compilation documenting the presence of the Thomas Hartford/ Maria McNulty Family in the St Joseph Church records.

Thomas J, age 27, a Black Smith, was living with his parents Thomas and Mary Hartford (both Day Laborers) in Garrett, Dekalb County, Indiana on Quinisey Street in the 1880 Census. His father Thomas is documented as being born in the East Indies (as were his parents) and mother in Ireland (like her parents). He has nine siblings: Mary 23, Ellen, 22, John 19, Hugh 17, William 15, Agnes 14, Kate 12, James 11 and George 7. In the 1900 Census he is listed as being born in New Jersey, parents in Ireland and wife Mary in Indiana with parents born in Ireland. In 1910, Thomas is listed as being born in New York, parents in Ireland (Mary born in Indiana, parents in Ireland). The Civil War Draft Regstration Card for Thomas Hartford (father of Thomas) confirms his birth as being the East Indies.

There is a fabulous Find a Grave webpage on Thomas Hartford created by David Cole (complete with fire department picture) and a detailed ancestry.com family tree De Graff-Hartford Combined that tracks this family.
