I identified one Gaughan in this resource from County Mayo. There was an ad placed inquiring about the whereabouts of County Mayo, Turlough native, Austin Gaughan by his mother Mary Gaughan. She made this inquiry through B. Oneill, a Justice of the Peace from Paterson, New Jersey. According to this entry, Austin Gaughan left Liverpool around 1849 and was last seen about 1858 in Alton, Illinois. (Degrazia; Fitzpatrick; 2001 Turlough).
Turlough Civil Parish is within Carra Barony and is part of Parke Roman Catholic Parish.
