The Michael and Rose Frain Family of South Bend, Indiana Documented in the Census Records
Michael Frain was the son of John Frain and Catherine Holden, friends of my second great grandparents who purportedly travelled by train with them from New York to South Bend. I have yet to find any baptismal records for their children (they were adopted) in the St Joseph Church records and I have not found their marriage record to uncover her maiden name.
Points to Ponder: Could Catherine the adopted daughter listed below in the 1910 census age 8 (born about 1902) be the Catherine M Frain born Febuary 1898 to Petrus Frain and Catharina Dorn in the St joseph Church Baptismal Record. (I am wondering if Petrus could be the John that was divorced living with Theresa Frain Pittman in the 1900 census?) There is conflicting evidence on Peter and John Frain that needs to be clarified.
Other noted records: There is a communion class record from St Joseph Church in South Bend from 1913 for both a Catherine and a Mary Frain. Catherine could possibly be Michael and Rose's adopted daughter.
