The Brennan Surname in County Roscommon Townlands in Slater's Royal National Commercial Directory of Ireland, 1870

The following information was acquired from the CD book Slater's Royal National Commercial Directory of Ireland, 1870 (Connaught section). It is part of the Trinity college of Dublin Library Collection. This CD ROM is available through Archive CD Books Ireland and is part of their Archive CD Books Project.

This CD includes an "Historical Account of Connaught Province" and Towns in its five Counties: Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Galway and Leitrim.

The Towns in County Roscommon that are covered in this Book CD are Ballinasloe, Boyle, Carrick-on-Shannon, Castlerea, Elphin, Roscommon with Ballina More and Athleague and Strokestown.

Ballinasloe was listed as being "partly in the Parish of Creagh, Barony of Moycarn, County of Roscommon, but chiefly in the Parish of Kilcloony, Barony of Clonmacnowen, County of Galway."

Carrick-on-Shannon lies "partially in the Parish of Killuken, Barony of Boyle, County Roscommon but chiefly in the Parish of Kiltoghart, Barony and County of Leitrim." (Slater, 1870;2008, p.19). Keep in mind that Patrick J Brennan listed below in the Carrick-on- Shannon section has a higher probability of being from County Leitrim than County Roscommon. I have included them because of the overlap of this Town into both Counties. The River Shannon is what splits the two sections of this Town.
