Mallow Field Club Journal

No. 26 - 2008

We welcome you to another edition of the Mallow Field Club Journal. As in previous editions it contains articles on a variety of subjects. These are the jig-saw pieces that complete the much larger historical picture. They open a window on how life was lived in the Mallow area in times past.

This year we acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by the Sisters of Mercy to the educational and to many other aspects of life in Mallow, since they came to the town more than one hundred and fifty years ago. Edel Daly, in her article, records a chapter in the history of Mallow General Hospital when it played a vital role in ridding the country of the scourge of T.B.

We would like to stress the value of old documents, photographs, newspapers and books in researching history. Before you throw them in the skip why not contact a committee member of the Mallow Field Club.

We continue to be indebted to our contributors for their generosity and hard work.

We hope that you, our readers, at home and abroad, will find something of interest in this year's Journal.
