Mallow Field Club Journal

No. 22 - 2004

This year's journal contains articles covering such topics as the ironmines, Burrowes' shop which [did] a thriving business in Mallow some decades ago, and the development of rural creameries. We also mark the celebration of 125 years of education in Mallow by the Patrician Academy, as well as recalling the De La Salle college which is now demolished, the lands of which are being developed into a large housing estate. Two noted scholars, Paul MacCotter, and Dr. Tadgh O'Keeffe have written on the influence of early Normans in North Cork. Other topics include Edmund Spenser, a mediaeval gravestone, Ballyhooley church, the noted church architects, James and GR Pain Brothers, as well as reminisacences of Mourneabbey and Mallow.

Following our twenty-first journal last year we have produced an index to journals 1 to 21, compiled by Seamus Crowley. This will be available also for Christmas.

We thank our readers for their continued support and hope you will enjoy this issue at least as much as you have enjoyed the previous editions.
