Mallow Field Club Journal

No. 5 - 1987

We welcome our readers to Mallow Field Club's Journal No. 5, 1987. Our Contributors have prepared for publication another selection of articles of wide interest to Mallow and the surrounding areas, and we wish to thank them most sincerely. Such items as the thermal springs of Mallow Spa and the Navigation Canal are now well documented and we continue our research on people, events and the general story of Mallow's past. Work is presently in progress recording the gravestones in the local cemeteries and indexing the Parish records under the auspices of AnCo. This will provide an invaluable research base for future historians.

At the present time many changes are taking place in Mallow. Major road works, demoliton of houses in Bridge Street and Broom Lane, and the taking down of the old Infirmary building in Infirmary Lane highlight the pace of events. It also highlights the need to record and preserve the stories and events of the past which may be fading in the folk memory. So again we encourage people to contact us with anecdotes, photographs or other historical material. Finally, we wish to thank our readers for their continued support of our Journal, the Summer outings and Winter lectures during the past.
