1901 Census

Organized by District Electoral Division
Organized by Civil Parish

The 1901 census collected data from townlands that were within an area defined as a District Electoral Division. Researchers will want to note that a DED does not always coincide in area with either the civil or Catholic parish of the same name. Some researchers have submitted townland data based on the DED, and some based on civil parish. How we present it here is determined by whether the DED is known. If we do not know the DED, the townland is organized by its civil parish. Otherwise, it is organized by DED. Be sure to check both indexes to look for your townland. A few townlands are duplicated on both the civil parish and DED organization.

The census lists county, barony, region (West Kerry), DED, Poor Law Union, Parish, Townland or Street, along with information on each person.

This work is in progress, thus does not include all townlands and towns of these baronies. Also note that errors are possible in transcription so reseachers may wish to view the original forms. The 1901 and 1911 censuses are online as of November, 2011 at The National Archives of Ireland. The census is also available from the National Archives, Bishop St., Dublin 2, Ireland.

Please contact the contributors if you have questions. They are listed on the individual pages. Or check the record online at The National Archives of Ireland.
