Breen Surname

1901 Census

Introduction - Page 1 - Page 2

These are extracts of the Breen surname in the 1901 census records. Note that people entered as having No education spoke Irish only and those that could Read & Write spoke English and Irish, except where otherwise stated.

Also note that the ID No. next to the townland is not part of the census data. It is part of a keyed system that contributor Pat Breen developed to identify persons and families in combination with an index, which is planned in the future.

The letter following the ID number indicates the type of record available on the person.

ID numbers followed by a "c" indicate the data is extracted from the census returns. Those followed by a "t" are transcribed from census film. The transcribed data is less complete than that supplied from the census returns and the accuracy of the transcribed data has not been subjected to the census extracts correctness checks. Nevertheless, the transcriptions do verify that copies of the census returns for the individuals mentioned can be ordered from the National Archives, Dublin," Pat Breen explains.
