Meeting Minutes, February, 2013
FEBRUARY 2013

February 19, 2013

The Whitewater Valley Genealogical Society met February 19, 2013 at the Trinity Episcopal Parish House. President Pat Cudworth wasn’t present due to the death of her brother and treasurer Sue Frank has bronchitis. John Johnson, Vice President, conducted the meeting.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved. There was no treasurer’s report.

Jim Wicker reported he was going to look for pictures to be added to the booklets. He found a fascinating scrapbook containing copies of obits and weddings. Pat Cudworth had sent word that next week she would meet with John Johnson to work on booklets.

John Johnson shared some requests for genealogy information. Bruce Whaley is looking for the names of John Whiteakker’s(Whiteaker) parents. An obit for John Whiteakker states he was born in Fayette Co., In on February 8, 1823. John Johnson tried to research this. He did find information that Mrs. Whiteakker’s maiden name was Seward and was probably the daughter of Samuel Seward, a Revolutionary War soldier.

Another request was from Michael R. Cochran looking for information on his gr-gr-grandparents, David D. Cochran and Eliza (Miller) Cochran. According to family information handed down David Cochran was orphaned at a young age and went to live with a Miller family. He apparently worked for them as they ran a business, perhaps a merchandise type store.

Debbie Grove sent a request looking for a birth record for Isaac Hubbell born in 1827 the son of William Wren Hubbell and Charity. Unless there is a family bible somewhere, there would not be a birth record.

Ron Wood announced that there would be a birthday party for Connersville which was platted March 4, 1813. This will be at the library on March 4 starting at 3:30. The time capsule from Visteon will be opened. The time capsule was put together on the 100th anniversary of the Rex Buggy Company.

Pat Summan told of an original land grant deed that she is trying to obtain. She also stated that HCI is sponsoring a reprint of the “Pen and Camera” book. It will take 4-6 weeks for the book to be done. It has pictures of some of the beautiful homes that were or are still in Connersville. There are also pictures of churches and industries. The cost will be $20.00. The original book had the names of the owners listed under the pictures. Someone has made a listing with the addresses and this will be added to the book. There is going to be a bicentennial book printed after the celebration.

John Johnson provided refreshments (thanks Nancy). The next meeting will be March 19.

Those present were: Jim Wicker, Doug and Sandy Brown, Pam and Ron Wood, John Johnson, and Pat Summan. Good luck to Pam Wood as she has knee surgery next month.
