Meeting Minutes, May 2012
May 2012

May 15, 2012

The Whitewater Valley Genealogical Association met May 15, 2012 at the Trinity Episcopal Parish House. President Pat Cudworth conducted the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as corrected. The first line of the second paragraph should have read Jim Wicker was NOT present. Karen Creamer gave the treasurers report. We have $355.59 in checking and $1,677.53 in savings.

Jim Wicker has articles on the Curse of Elm Farm, Elmhurst School and is working on a few other articles. Karen would like to do a book on First Families of Fayette County. She reported that the date for first families in Fayette County is 1820 so there arent that many that would qualify. Also last fall she had suggested a book on Ancestral Charts. These would be charts and not biographies like the ones in the new county history book.

Pat Cudworth talked about the booklet How to Start Your Family Tree. Karen thought she could get some information from the internet.

Pat announced that the Whitewater Valley Arts would have a special exhibit on May 18 from 4-8. Show dates are May 18-June 15.

Sandy Brown has worked a little on the 1920s obits at the library. Ron Wood announced that the museum has just acquired 2 portraits of Thomas Clarke who was from Connersville. After the war he moved to California and became quite successful in the telegraph business. The family no longer wanted the portraits and donated them to the museum. They are quite heavy and probably cost the family a considerable amount to ship them.

Ron also told that the bicentennial committee is re-doing the building at 416 N. Central Avenue which is where bicentennial office will be. Pat Summan announced that the new county history book has been shipped to the publisher. There are 319 biographies.

Heritage Days is October 27 & 28. The Franklin County Pioneer Reunion is October 11, 12 & 13. This may be the last one. Visit the Franklin County INGenWeb website for updated info. www.ingenweb.org/infranklin

It was decided to put the beginner genealogy class on the back burner until after the bicentennial.

We will be having a joint meeting with Wayne County on July 17. Originally we had planned on going to the county cemetery office and have Randy Morehead give a demonstration on stone repair. Now that Randy has resigned as superintendent, Pat Summan will talk to him and see if he can give a program on site.

Since Randy has resigned the commissioners are going to contract for mowing and stone restoration for the rest of the year. At the commissioners meeting they approved a temporary contract for John Walters of Graveyard Groomers to mow 18 cemeteries next to the road for $1,800 and this temporary contract is until Memorial Day, May 28.

Randy resigned because of all the problems trying to deal with the county officials over his budget.

Pam Wood from the nominating committee presented the slate of officers: President Pat Cudworth, Vice President John Johnson, Secretary Pat Summan and Treasurer Sue Frank.

Karen Creamer furnished refreshments.

Those present were Linda Mahan, Jim Wicker, Sue Frank, Pam and Ron Wood, Charlie Hughes, Doug and Sandy Brown, Pat Cudworth, Karen Creamer, John Johnson and Pat Summan.
