Meeting Minutes, April 2010
APRIL 2010

The regular meeting of the WVGA was held on April 20th, 2010 at 7:00PM with 15 members and 2 guests, Jane Owen and our speaker for the evening was Dr. Mary Alice Hines from the Indianapolis area who spoke about "The Society of Indiana Pioneers". Their members share a common bond in working to preserve and honor the contributions our pioneer ancestors made to the development of the great State of Indiana. The Society has added an outstanding genealogist, Michele Kerr to the their staff. They take Pilgrimages (one day trips) by motor coach arranged by tour coordinators in the Spring and Fall to places of interest, and they have annual meetings. Mary Alice gave a presentation of Fayette County's Advantages and Population and Employments. She mentions our history in the auto industry or other notoriety of our county. She offered applications to their Society and instructions on how to fill them out and invited anyone interested to join their group. She was aided by her posters, laptop and maps and gave an interesting program.

Then the meeting was called to order by the President, Sandy Brown. The minutes and treasure's report were given and approved. Sandy announced that Louanna Booth became a new member after last meeting.

And a friend of the Association passed away since last meeting. That was Paulette Hayes who was a very active member of the Historic Connersville Group and a Library Employee. Our sorrow and sympathy goes out to her family. The death of Jean Good, sister in law of Barbara Smith on the 12th of April was also announced. And Mrs Ann Porter also died since last meeting.

Sandy called for a report from the ways and means committee, Karen Creamer and Jim Wicker. Jim was not present and Karen had no report. Karen read a letter from Jean Marshall wanting someone to go to the Everton Community Church and record the names on a antique quilt they have there and send this record to her. No one volunteered.

Ron Wood reported that with the passing of Paulette Hayes, the library could use some volunteers to help visitors who want to find things in the Genealogy room. Ron also reported that the meeting they had to make plans for the bi-centennial celebration in Connersville, in late June or early July 2013, will be meeting every two weeks from now on. Next meeting is April 28th at 6:00 PM. There are so many committees to be formed and headed by someone dependable. A few that he mentioned were: Publicity, Parade, Old Cars, Contest, Pageant, Fund Raisers, Tours, Flags and Songs, Motto or Logos. Townships recognized, Children's programs, and more. Ron said that the work that Paulette had begun on the Bi-centennial is being sorted and studied a little at a time. He also announced that there will be information about where the Quilt Barn Trail will lead.

John Johnson asked if the two organizations, WVGA and Historic Connersville had ever thought of consolidation of the two groups. He thinks they both seem to be interested in much the same kind of programs and might make a stronger organization for both. Just a idea to think about.

The Newsletter from the Wabash Co. Genealogical Society came in the mail this week. And also correspondence from the Indiana Historical Society inviting us to exhibit at the Midwestern Roots 2010: Family History and Genealogy Conference- named "Migration Then and Now" at the Marriott East in Indy. Aug. 6 and &, 2010. Please go to indianahistory.org/midwesternroots to access complete information and registration or call (317)233-3256.

Sandy appointed a nomination committee to bring a slate of officers to the next meeting for election. This committee is Pat Summan, Mary Jane Miller, and Karen Creamer.

Refreshments were served by Nancy and Bob Price and and the meeting was adjourned.
