For some reason, although Indiana required registration of births and deaths beginning in 1882, Wells County does not seem to have records of this type for events prior to 1883.
Luckily, the Bluffton Banner newspaper ran lists of births and deaths in their publications dated May 25, 1882, and October 12, 1882 covering births from January - September 1882.
They are listed below, as they appeared in the newspaper.

It will be noticed from the above
report that there has been born 29
male children and 29 females since
January 1. Being equally matched,
it shows that the fathers and mothers
of Wells county maintain the bal-
ance of power. Harrison township
leads the van, having 25, Jefferson
coming in a good second.
