Becks Mill


The historic Becks Mill an old Grist (Grain) Mill of Washington County Indiana was built in 1864. Just after it was built a man by the name of John Hunt Morgan, whom tried to demand ransom on every mill in the Washington County area so that they would be spared from burning. A little over 100 years later after this incident the old mill still stands seven miles (11 km) southwest of Salem Indiana in among the sycamore and maple trees.



In the years of 1990,2005 and 2006 where it was placed on two national registers for proctection of the old mill along with restoration efforts during those years completeing restoration in 2008, in time for the 200th anniversary of the first Beck's Mill. That same year the county Chamber of Commerces awarded Citizen of the Year award to the Friends of Becks Mill for the efforts in their restoring the old mill. And the mill was reopened in time for their Old Settler's Days festival in Salem in the month of September that same year.
The mills years of service (1864-1890) until it was shut down for good in 1914 due to tornado damage.
