Adams County was established on February 7, 1836, the county seat is Decatur. It was named for President John Quincy Adams.

Adams has 12 townships: Blue Creek, French, Hartford, Jefferson, Kirkland, Monroe, Preble, Root, Saint Marys, Union, Wabash.
