When the Korean War ended the enemy
never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen.
They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that
time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains
in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those
remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from
most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various
reasons some families have not been located. There are 69
families in Indiana that have not been located.
When the remains are recovered and identified they will be
returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76
years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I
did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that
you can help in some way to find this family. For more
information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/.
My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the
proper agency.
I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Historical Military Facts of St. Joseph County
La Salle's Camp 1 Mile West
Site of La Salle's camp, 1679, on portage between St. Joseph and Kankakee rivers.
La Salle was the first white man to enter Indiana, passing here again in 1681.

Camp Rose
Civil War Training camp for then 9th Congressional District was located at the old fairgrounds.
The 99th, 73rd and 87th Indiana Volunteer infantry regiments were organized and trained here in 1802.

Sisters of the Holy Cross, Civil War Nurses, 1861-1865
In response to Governor Morton's call of October 1861, eighty Sisters of the Holy Cross under the leadership
of Mother Angela served as military nurses. The Sisters became the forerunners of the Navy Nurse Corps in 1862 when they boarded the
Red Rover, the navy's first hospital ship.

Normain Heights Subdivision
Veterans' Homes of Mishawaka, Inc., founded by veterans, 1946, built (1947-1949) to counter housing
shortage after World War II. 315 houses built on battle-named streets to seven designs; innovative features:
aluminum siding, complete kitchen and bath, central heating, landscaping. Part of national trend for planned suburban communities.

Battell Park
Mishawaka's oldest park, circa 1860s; given to city (1881) by members of Battell family.
Features include Civil War soldiers monument (1884); neoclassical copper domed, brick and limestone
Band shell commemorating WW I (1927): exceptional Works Progress Administration rock garden
(1937). Listed in National Register of Historic Places, 1996
