Clarice I. Young

 June 21, 1928 - Mar. 25, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Clarice I. (Hartstein) Young, 81, of South Bend, passed away early Thursday morning after a brief illness. Clarice was born in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Pearl (Hoover) and William Hartstein, Sr. She had five children, Ralph (Nancy) Young, Deb (Charles) Kiefer, Cheryl Wright, Julia (Jim) Norris and Renee Young. Preceding Clarice in death are her son-in-law Robert Wright and the love of her life and husband of 25 years, Ralph E. Young, Sr. Clarice loved her grandchildren deeply, Aaron (Beth) Young, Stephanie (Steve) Thorla, Kimberly (Eric) Stokes, Jackie Wilk, Charley Kiefer, Jennifer (Jon) Crutchfield, Tara (Tim) Donlin, Jessica Norris, Nicole (Amos) Araiza and Lara Garcia (Adrian Contreras). She was especially fond of her great-grandchildren who could always make her smile - Alexander and Jacob Young, Dominick Wilk, Isaac Dunner, Jr., Sean Young and Allysa Stokes, Evan, Jason and Sarah Crutchfield, Aidan and Alyson Donlin, Cherisse and Malikai Araiza, Leigh Ann, Adrian III, Lizzie, and Shawn Contreras. While her five children were young, Clarice enjoyed staying home and participating in their many activities. Later on, one of Clarice's favorite jobs was as an elevator operator at the First Bank building. Clarice lived at Karl King Towers where she had many friends that she enjoyed playing bingo and cards with (as long as she won). Clarice loved to laugh and was always ready with a new joke to share with friends and family. She loved a good competition, just name the game. Clarice also loved to go to the casino and if you ever would ask her what she needed or wanted it was always the same "a million dollars". Clarice loved to travel to visit her daughter and grandchildren in Texas or a special niece in California. Her favorite times were always with family and she enjoyed many a game with her sisters and brothers. Four brothers and three sisters preceded Clarice in death, Walter, William, Donald and Alfred (Bud) Hartstein, Cleo Boyer, Betty Nadolny and Gayle Paksi. Surviving her are a sister, Wilma Miner and two brothers, Ted (Joan) Hartstein and Dick (Natalie) Hartstein. Clarice had many nieces and nephews that she loved. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jennifer Maya, Dr. Laura Hannon, Hamilton Grove communities nurses and staff and Hospice Center for Palliative Care staff for the care they provided Clarice and family during her illness. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 27 at 4:00 pm with Rev. J. Mark Muncy, officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N Main St, Mishawaka. Clarice's wishes to be cremated will be granted and, therefore, in lieu of flowers, preferred memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Hospice Center for Palliative Care or the American Cancer Society .
