GRANGER - Eugene J. Wozny, 86, of Granger, passed away on December 15, 2008, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, South Bend. He was born on February 14, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Stanley Wozny Sr. and Regina (Wozny) Robaska, and was a lifelong area resident. He attended South Bend Central High School. On February 9, 1946, he married Bernice Sikorski, who survives. Eugene is also survived by his son, Robert (Kathleen Niles) Wozny; his daughter, Sharon (Dr. Max) Helman, both of Granger; three grandchildren, Anthony (Heather) Traxler of Omaha, NE, Meredith (Jeff) Guyton of Granger and Blair Wozny of South Bend; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Traxler of Omaha and Elle and Tate Guyton of Granger; two sisters, Lillian Lechtanski and Shirley (Jack) Mesaros, both of South Bend; a former daughter-in-law, Diana Wozny of Granger; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wozny of South Bend; and by many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Wozny in 1999; two brothers, Stanley and Donald Wozny; and by a brother-in-law, Steve Lechtanski. Eugene was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of ZB Falcons, and an avid golfer and bowler, belonging to the Bowlers Country Club and was a former member of the Erskine Men's Club. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran, and served in the South Pacific.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Thursday, December 18, 2008, in Holy Family Catholic Church, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Kaniewski Funeral Homes, South Bend, is handling the arrangements. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Services of Northern Indiana, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend, IN 46634. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, especially Curtis and Jayson, for their loving care of Eugene.
