Rev. William Woods  

Rev. William Woods, 79, of 628 Rush St., died at 10:04 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital after a three-week illness. He retired  from the Studebaker Corp. He was born on Nov. 15, 1891 in Tupelo, Miss., and had lived here 40 years, coming from Tupelo. On Oct. 11, 1953, in South Bend, he married Mrs. Hester Carnes, who survives, along with two sons, Rudell of Gary, Ind., and Horace of South Bend; three stepsons, Birdie Carnes of Brooklyn, N. Y. James Carnes of Baton Rouge, La., Mrs. Rennie Jackson and Mrs. Willie Mae Thomas, both of Gary, and Mrs. Velma Jordon of South Bend; three step-daughters, Mrs. Mildred Johnson of Indianapolis, Mrs. Pat Shivers and Mrs. Ruth Forbes, both of South Bend, and 38 grandchildren.    Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; a brother, James and a sister, Mrs. Birdie Owens, both of South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Alford's Mortuary. Mr. Woods had served as pastor of St. John's Church of God in Christ for 12 years before his retirement. Friends may call in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Forbes, 719 N. Twyckenham Dr.
