Joe A. Woodmore

April 13, 1923 - June 13, 2000

Joe Allen Woodmore, 77, of Stanmore Court, went home to be with his heavenly father after a lengthy illness at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, in Saint Joseph's Re-gional Medical Center.

Joe was born on April 13, 1923, to the union of the late Robert and Eunice (Tramel) Woodmore in Magnolia, Ark. He was also preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Woodmore, Bertha Woodmore, Gussie Woodmore, Lenny Pearl and Owyther Woodmore, and Clara Decker; and by two brothers, Robert and Willie L. Woodmore. Joe moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1943.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ella M.; a son, Mark (Monica) Woodmore of South Bend; a daughter, Verna Woodmore of Detroit, Mich.; two grandchildren, Mark Woodmore, Jr., and Cherelle Woodmore, both of South Bend; four stepdaughters, Shirley P. (Fred) Jones, Jr., Sarah A. Coalmon and Culeatha L. (Johnny) Mack, all of South Bend, and Deloras D. (Jerry) Jones of Toledo, Ohio; a stepson, Donald Shorter of South Bend; two sisters, Pream Neal of Vallejo, Calif., and Christine Courtney of Magnolia, Ark.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joe retired from Allied Signal in 1988 after 39 years of service. He served as U.A.W. union steward for 15 years. He was a member of Greater St. John Baptist Church for over 50 years. He also sang with the Traveling Souls Quartet.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, in the Greater St. John Baptist Church, 101 Adams Street, South Bend. Visitation will be from noon until time of services on Saturday.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
