Eddie Lewis Woodard

Mrs. Eddie Lewis Woodard, 89, of 442 S. Kaley St., South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, in the Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal, after an extended illness. She was born to the union of Mary Bond and Henry Phillips on Dec. 14, 1907, in Brownsville, Tenn., and lived in South Bend since 1923.

 

In January of 1923 she married William Woodard in South Bend, who preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1970. Leaving to cherish her memory are two nieces, Claudia Welch of South Bend and Walteena Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; two nephews, Elmo Perry and Green Perry, both of South Bend; 12 great- and 24 great-great nieces and nephews.

 

Mrs. Woodard was a member of the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church since 1942, where she was the past Sunday School superintendent and a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was president of the Usher Board for 27 years, and supervisor of the Junior Usher Board. She was the church treasurer for many years, and was a member of the Baptist Training Union.

 

Friends may call at Alford's Mortuary from 3 to 7 p.m. today. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the New Salem Baptist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
