Carol Joseph Witz

MISHAWAKA - Carol Joseph Witz, 77, of Shanower Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Wednesday, June 6, in Memorial Hospital. Carol was born in Shelby County, Ind., on Sept. 23, 1923, to John Alfred Witz and Maude (Miller) Witz. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maude Witz; his first wife, Elizabeth (VanVoren) Witz; and by a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Christine Urbanski.

 

Carol married Mary Sue (Clark) Vollmer in Mishawaka on May 28, 1983. Carol retired from Uniroyal in 1980, where he was a supervisor, after 25 years of service. Carol was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, being discharged in 1946. Carol was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He served on the County Council District H for four years, was on the Area Planning Commission, the St. Joseph County Redevelopment Committee, and was a Precinct Community Man. Carol is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Witz of Mishawaka; a daughter, Susan (Denny) Denman of Osceola, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Vickie (Tom) Chodzinski of South Bend, Ind., Laurie (Thomas) Urbanski of Mishawaka and Melanie (John) Weber of Mishawaka. Carol is also survived by eight grandchildren, David (Jamie) Wood of Mishawaka, Kimberlee (Kevin) Blank of Granger, Ind., James (Gina) Wood of Osceola, Matthew (Christina) Urbanski of South Bend, John (Sarah) Urbanski of South Bend, Joseph (Carolyn) Urbanski of South Bend, Andrew Chodzinski and Adam Chodzinski, both of South Bend; along with 10 great- grandchildren. Carol also has a sister surviving, Loris June Creed of Anderson, Ind.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 8, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the funeral chapel, with Rev. Gary Scott officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
