Sister M. Francis Gertrude CSC, 86, of St. Mary’s Convent, died there at 7 a.m. Saturday after an illness. She was born July 11, 1900 in Poland, as Mary Josephine Wituska. Surviving are a sister, Blanche Kapsa of South Bend and several nieces and nephews. On Feb. 10, 1921 Sister Gertrude entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Saint Mary’s. She was received as a novice Aug, 15, 1921 and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1923. She taught at elementary schools, including St. Hediwg School, St. Joseph Grade School and Holy Cross School. Her other assignments were in Crawfordsville, LaPorte, Logansport, Plymouth, and Michigan City. She came to St. Mary’s convent in 1970.

Services were to have been today in Our Lady of Loretto Church and burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s
