Marcia Clare Williams, age 80, of Weist Lane, South Bend, died at 8:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, in Memorial Hospital. Marcia was born on Aug. 26, 1919, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Verner W. and Rose (Hoppin) Main. She had lived in South Bend since 1942, coming from Battle Creek. She retired in 1980 as an elementary school teacher with the South Bend Community School System, teaching at Harrison Elementary School. On July 18, 1942, in Battle Creek, as Marcia Clare Main, she was married to Howard J. Williams. He survives along with two daughters and their husbands; Wendy and Keith Bittle of South Bend and Deborah and James Secunda of Charlotte, North Carolina; a son and his wife; Douglas H. and Patricia Williams of Hinsdale, Illinois. Also surviving are two brothers, Stuart L. Main of Lafayette, Indiana, and Curtis V. Main of East Lansing, Michigan; and a sister, Janet Polack of Lancaster, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Katrina (Brian) Bittle-Durance, Curtis, and Jessica Bittle and Daniel, Katherine and Philip Williams. Marcia received her B.A. in Education from Western Michigan University and her master's degree from Indiana University at South Bend. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend since 1943, a member of the Presbyterian Women, the Presbyterian Married Folks Club, the 100 Dance Club, Morris Park Bridge Club, the Auxiliary of the South Bend Kiwanis Club and a member of the Thalia Sorority.

 

Memorial services will be on Wednesday, March 15, at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend. Rev. David Morrow, pastor, will officiate. Private burial services will be at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and just prior and after the memorial service on Wednesday in the church.
