SOUTH BEND - Cheryl Ann Williams, 53, transitioned from life peacefully in her home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday morning, February 6, 2010, at 3:24 a.m. Hospice of St. Joe Co. helped the family with her wishes to have her body donated to the Anatomical Education Program of the I.U. School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Cheryl was a loving daughter of Everett L. and Wilma Steffey, a devoted friend, and a loving mother. She is survived by her two daughters, Angela Williams from Columbus, Ohio, and Tanya (Josh) Walters in Mishawaka. She has two grandsons, Dillon and Dominick Walters. Cheryl is survived by three brothers and a sister, Sara (Mike) McQueen in Bloomington, Davis Steffey in Texas, and John and Clark Steffey in South Bend. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister Mona. Cheryl was a loving caregiver of the nature in her backyard, worked as a home health aide most of her adult life, and raised four cats, fulfilling her lifelong love of animals. An honoring of her life will be held in her home on 730 S. Kentucky St., South Bend, Indiana, on Monday, Feb. 8, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , Hospice of St. Joe Co. or to Pet Refuge on 6th Street in Mishawaka. The family wishes to give special appreciation to Dr. Michael Method and Jackie Lenfestey NP, and the staff at Michiana Hemotology Oncology for their love and support during her four year battle to "beat cancer."
