Obituary: Cherry Sue Williams

April 3, 1934 -- June 22, 2005

Cherry Sue Williams, 71, of South Logan Street, South Bend, formerly of East 3rd Street, Mishawaka, passed away in her home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, after an extended illness.

Cherry was born on April 3, 1934, in Ureka, Kansas, to Claude and Aletha (Ebberts) Wallace. Preceding Cherry in death were her parents; two sisters, Flo Young and Juanita Van Ooteghen; and a brother, Chester Wallace.

On March 11, 1952, in Roseland, as the former Cherry Sue Wallace, she married Melvin Williams, who survives. Also surviving Cherry are four sons, David L. (Kathy) of Las Vegas, NV, Michael L. of South Bend, Claude M (Traci) of Florissant, MO, and Melvin F. Jr., of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cherry was a member of VFW Post 360 Ladies Auxiliary, and was involved with the Battell Center and was a Real Services volunteer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved going to the boat.

Cherry and her husband Melvin are very special people who have devoted their time, talents and energy to make our community an even better place to live, raise a family, work and retire. This fact was acknowledged by the former Mayor Robert Beutter who proclaimed the 5th day of August 1992 as Cherry Sue and Melvin Williams Day in the City of Mishawaka.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, June 24th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25th, in the funeral home with Rev. Sam Boys officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
