SOUTH BEND - Patricia T. Wilhelm, 82, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Patricia was born on June 10, 1925, in Toledo, OH, to Joseph and Margaret (O'Brien) Wilde, and had lived in South Bend since 1955, coming from Norfolk, VA. She attended the Naval Nurses Training at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo, OH, from 1943-1946. She was a registered nurse and had been employed with the University of Notre Dame Student Health Center for five years from 1973-1978. She was also the night supervisor for St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, OH, from 1948-1950.

 

On August 7, 1948, in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Toledo, OH, as Patricia T. Wilde, she married her high school sweetheart, Anthony F. Wilhelm, who survives. Other survivors include her daughter, Therese "Terry" (Gregory) Lyle of Lake St. Louis, MO; two sons, James (Mary Anne) Wilhelm of Framingham, MA, and Thomas (Kim) Wilhelm of Macau, China; nine grandchildren, Toni (Tom) Donnelly of Wentzville, MO, Dan Lyle of New York City, NY, Heather (Jeremy) Lowey of Indianapolis, IN, Griff Quirk of Wingate, IN, Tonya (Boone) Finkbiner of Wingate, IN, Cap Quirk of Wingate, IN, Michael Wilhelm of Philadelphia, PA, Devin Wilhelm of Macau, China, and Kelsey Wilhelm of Macau, China; one great-grandson, Patrick Donnelly of Wentzville, MO. Preceding her in death were her son, Joseph Wilhelm in 1980; and her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Quirk in 2007.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2007, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary and time of sharing memories will be held at 4:00 p.m. Patricia was a member of Holy Cross Parish and Rosary Altar Society. She was a devoted volunteer at Holy Cross Grade School for many years and was a past P.T.A. President. She had been a member of the Mother Singers of Holy Cross and a member of the choir for 35 years. She was a past President of the Wives of Knights of Columbus Council #553. She had also organized Navy reunions for the Naval Air Squadron VC99. Patricia was a beautiful singer and pianist. She was a wonderful homemaker and a very devoted mother to her five children. She also loved to sew, not only clothing for her children but the many friendships she cultivated throughout the years. Her home was always a gathering place for the neighborhood children. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Building Fund.
