SOUTH BEND - Michael J. Wilfing, 65,
of Waynesville, N.C., formerly of South Bend, died at 4:24 p.m.
Sunday in Haywood County Hospital, Waynesville, after an illness.
Mr. Wilfing retired in 1963 from Indiana State Police after 30
years of service and from Dade County (Fla.) Sheriff's Department
in 1981. He was born May 25, 1929, in South Bend and lived in
South Bend until 1966.
On June 30, 1950, in South Bend, he married
Elaine Berlincourt. She survives with two sons, Michael C.
of West Linn, Ore., and David C. of Prattville, Ala.; four
grandchildren; a stepsister, Joyce VandeCoffe of Palm
Desert, Calif.; and a stepbrother, Richard S. Grindle of
Jonesboro, Ga. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday
in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. Burial
will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made
