Ernest Carl Wiegand

Ernest Carl Wiegand, 79 years old, residing on Locust Road, South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 1999 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Wiegand formerly worked at Edward's Iron Works in South Bend and was co-founder of the Industrial Metal Fab Company Inc. in South Bend in 1964 where he retired from in 1982. Mr. Wiegand was born on September 23, 1919 in Lakeville, IN to the late Charles and Bena (Zieger) Wiegand. He had been a lifelong area resident.

 

On November 30, 1940 in South Bend, he married Ruth A. Hartman who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Georgiana Fuchs of Lakeville and Kathleen Bennett of Orange Park, Fla., eight grandchildren, Kent Fuchs, Kevin Fuchs, Karla Flynn, Jim Wiegand, Jay Wiegand, Jon Wiegand, Adam Bennett and Melissa Bennett, and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Wiegand had four sons precede him in death, Jerry A. on May 12, 1999, Thomas O. on December 29, 1998, and twin sons, Dennis C. in August of 1969 and Daniel L. in March of 1953. One sister, Mabel Kohler, and two brothers, Rudy and Willis Wiegand, also preceded him in death.

 

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 1999 at the Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Rev. David Cross, pastor of Lakeville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow. The family will hold a private visitation in the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville.

Mr. Wiegand was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, where he was honorably discharged on November 12, 1945. Contributions in memory of Ernest Carl Wiegand may be donated to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, IN is handling the arrangements.
