Sister Mary Leonarda CSC, 85, of St. Mary’s Convent died there Wednesday night following an extended illness. She was born Catherine J. White in Witleff Bay, Newfoundland in 1876. She came to the United States from there in 1900 to enter the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She received the habit in 1901 and made her final vows in 1906. During her community life she served at St. Mary’s Hospital in Ciaro, Ill., and St. Alphonsus Hospital in Bosie, Idaho. From 1911 to 1956 she served at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Washington DC. In 1956 she returned to St. Mary’s because of illness.

A requiem high mass will be held at 6 a.m. Friday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call in the convent parlors.
